18 Sep Captain Marvel Trailer: Watch the preview for the first female-led MCU movie
The highly-anticipated Captain Marvel trailer is finally among us.
Brie Larson will play Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), with Anna Boden as director in the franchise’s first female-led film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), due for release on 8 March 2019 in UK cinemas.
Marvel released Elektra with Jennifer Garner in a lead role back in 2005, but that wasn’t part of the MCU collection, which began in 2008 with Iron Man, making Captain Marvel the first MCU flick to be led by a female actress.
Excitement for this film began during the end credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War. Nick Fury is given one call to save the entire universe. He decides to contact Captain Marvel, whose logo briefly flashes across the screen, signifying she will play a big role in the next Avengers movie, due for release in May 2019.
Brie Larson will be joined by the likes of Samuel L Jackson, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou and Ben Mendelsohn. Lashana Lynch and Gemma Chan also among the cast list. The British duo recently featured in Brotherhood and Transformers: The Last Knight respectively.
When asked about the plot in an interview with ComicBook.com, Marvel president Kevin Feige simply said: ‘You already know as much you need to. We’ve got Skrulls, we’ve got the Kree, it takes place in the 90s, you have Sam Jackson with two eyes and Carol Danvers, a unique telling of Carol Danvers origin”.
In another interview with EW, Feige described Carol Danvers as one of the franchises’s most powerful superheroes. being “She is more powerful that any character we’ve introduced this far.”
He continued with: “So that alone tells you that there’s a reason Nick hit that button at the end [of Infinity War], when he realised that they were up against something far bigger than they had ever been up against before. And having her on your side is hopefully going to change the balance of power in a way that they desperately need.”
