25 Jan Eminem and Juice WRLD claim one of the closest UK single chart victories ever
Eminem UK chart numbers -- They’re up there with the best.
In securing his 10th UK #1 single, Eminem secured one of the closest victories ever. There were just 93 sales separating ‘Godzilla (feat. Juice WRLD)’ and Roddy Rich’s ‘The Box’.
Music To Be Murdered By, Eminem’s 11th studio album, topped the UK album’s charts with 36,000 sales, while ‘Godzilla’, featuring Juice Wrld, went #1 in the single’s charts. ‘Godzilla’ also marks the first posthumous chart-topper for Juice WRLD, who passed away in December 2019 at the age of 21.
Roddy Rich’s viral dance challenge on Tik Tok helped ‘The Box’ shoot up from #5 to #2, but it wasn’t enough to oust ‘Godzilla’. Although, ‘Godzilla’ didn’t quite set the record for the closest-ever battle on the charts. Back in 2007, Timbaland’s ‘The Way I Are’ beat Kate Nash’s ‘Foundations’ to the #1 spot by just 16 sales.
In 2019, just three songs debuted at #1 in the Singles Charts: Stormzy -- ‘Vossi Bop’, Ed Sheeran x Justin Bieber -- ‘I Don’t Care’ and LadBaby -- ‘I Love Sausage Rolls’.
‘Godzilla’ is the first track of the new decade to achieve this somewhat rare feat, while Juice WRLD’s feature makes him the first act to posthumously secure a UK #1 single in 12 years. Success + Eminem UK chart numbers seem to go hand-in-hand.
As well as Music To Be Murdered By, the Detroit rapper also has another album in the top 40 with Curtain Call -- The Hits, which currently occupies the #31 spot. That project was released back in 2005 and has since spent 393 weeks (!) inside the top 100 and the equivalent of two-and-a-half years inside the top 40 (!!) since its release.
