19 Oct Jermaine Pennant Jeremy Kyle: Former Champions League finalist features on relationship talk-show
Jermaine Pennant Jeremy Kyle – 11 years ago, the man who would go on to become the Premier League’s first-ever footballer to wear an ankle tag, was named the man of the match in a 2-1 defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League final.
Club football’s highest stage saw Jermaine Pennant, a former Arsenal academy graduate, make his mark in the biggest way possible. Liverpool lost, but Pennant, at the very least, left that match with reason to feel optimistic about his future in football, but it was all downhill from there.
After leaving the Reds in 2009, Pennant went on to join nine different clubs in the following nine years, including spells in Spain, India, Thailand and a stint at Billericay Town. His career fizzled out after that memorable night against Milan in Athens.
Fast forward to 2018, the former England international was seen appearing on The Jeremy Kyle Show. Alice Goodwin, Pennant’s wife, is unhappy with his behaviour in their relationship. Goodwin also took issue with his flirtatious antics while appearing on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, which included hiding his wedding ring and denying that he was married.
The couple took to daytime TV to resolve their issues, with Pennant refusing to take a lie detector test. He said: “No, no. I’m alright. I’m good. But I’m not coming on the show to do one”. Pennant then turned to Alice and said “behind closed doors”.
Fans on social media were quick to offer their thoughts on 2018’s most unusual headline: ‘Jermaine Pennant Jeremy Kyle appearance’:
"If you get with a girl, and then she gets with me the next week, you have to pay me rent."
